Hello friends!

I set out to make a film. My “first film”. A film I could make at the time, with no resources and no gatekeepers. Three years later, that film is now available for everyone to see on youtube. Just in time for international workers day!

⛔️ It’s about being told no and still pushing the door.

🤗 It’s about being exploited and still being open to others.

👩🏼‍🤝‍👩🏾 It was made from the generosity and talent of less than twenty people.

Three years feels like a long time from initial idea to public release (one year of making it and two years of asking festivals to screen it). And even now the team behind the film are still encountering toxic work environments and burnout.

If you’ve been in that place, or you’re in it now, the Fathom team are with you, rooting for you, and letting you know that it won’t be forever.

Audiences have repeatedly told me to pass on compliments across departments.

… 🧑‍🎨 “the colours are gorgeous” 🏊 “the actors are so talented” ☎️ “I wish I could touch the set design” 🎞️ “I love how it cuts back and forth” 🎧 “the sound is so much bigger than I was expecting” 🪑”what a weird, amazing space” …

I feel so blessed to have worked with this team. They are amazing collaborators.

There have been several hard parts of making Fathom, but the hardest part is finding its audience.
